Browser Builds Failing?

If your builds have been failing, your first step is to log in to Apple Developer to make sure that you've agreed to the Apple Developer Program License Agreement. Next go to GitHub and run the Build Action for your repository. If you need help troubleshooting, post on Facebook or Discord with your GitHub URL. The latest agreement was issued on August 18 and needs to be signed by October 1, but there was also a June agreement you might have missed.

iOS 27

iOS 27 is expected to land on Sept 14. As always, make sure your iOS auto-updates are off on your looping phone. You do not want your OS-AID app interrupted by an unplanned update. Our team will give the “all clear” when we have determined that the new iOS is compatible with our apps.

Remember - major updates often have rapid changes. We typically suggest you wait until those rapid changes have landed before updating your phone. Of course, if you buy a shiny new iPhone 18, you will be running iOS 27. The developers have worked hard to get your app ready but be prepared to pay attention and report any issues you notice.

You can always find the most up-to-date info in the comments on the app and in the Featured section in our Facebook group, in the Releases section on LnL Discord and on our Version Updates page.

Libre 3 and 3 Plus Open Beta

NOTE: “Beta” means this feature is being tested and is for experienced loopers only

The Libre 3 and 3 Plus sensor is started directly inside the Loop and Trio apps — you won't use the official Libre app at all. You cannot transition from the official app to the OS-AID at this time.

  • Unlike Libre 2 and 1 sensors, you must pair with the OS-AID app

  • For the Loop app, use next-dev branch

    • This is for experienced Libre 3 and 3 Plus Loopers who can commit to rebuilding frequently (maybe weekly) and follow along and report issues on zulipchat
  • For the Trio app, the open beta for Libre 3 / 3 Plus has been added to the dev branch.
    • Only one reading is forwarded to Trio every 5 minutes at this time, but 1-min readings are still viewable in the Libre driver in real-time.
    • Support for forwarding all of the 1-min readings in Trio is still being worked on, so keep an eye out for a PR for that in the future.

If you live in the US and have never used Libre 3 Plus and want to give it a try, you can get a free sensor through this link.

  • Some restrictions apply, of course
  • We are not sure if something similar is available for other countries.

Quote from a Looper mom

“Loop is constantly evolving with updates and features we didn’t know we needed.”

Where Should I Ask…

Facebook? Discord? Zulip? GitHub? Wow! There are many options! With over 15K members in our Facebook group, that seems like the natural place to post - but there are reasons to post on other platforms at times. It can help your issue get seen by the right person in a timely fashion and keep the channels that won’t be helpful clearer for their intended purposes. Here’s what each of the platforms is used for:

Non-technical community chat:

Facebook Groups: For Loop and Learn, Trio, and LoopFollow, our non-technical (well, ok- sometimes some “technical” talk happens here) place for all things “community” is on Facebook. Need help building, making decisions, or understanding how settings work? Have a success or a struggle you’d like to share? Want easy access to the latest OS-AID updates, the newsletter, YouTube videos and more? This is the place for you!

Loop and Learn Discord: Another informal venue for those who don’t have (or don't want) Facebook.

Developers/technical questions:

Trio Discord: Lots of discussions happen here, organized by topic. Mostly non-technical and some “off topic”.

Loop Zulipchat: Well-organized technical discussions happen here. This is an appropriate place for feature requests, as well.

GitHub: This is where the coding happens. If you want to look at, ask questions about, or contribute to the coding of Loop or Trio, this is where to go. (And don't forget to read LoopDocs and TrioDocs).

We’re All Friends Here

We discourage the use of pseudonyms. We are a large community of looping friends and unless you're experiencing legal or emotional issues that need to be kept secret, please post using your FB name. “Happy hippopotamus123456” lacks the community feel that we strive for. It also makes it much more difficult for mentors to review prior posts to get more background about prior questions, such as build method, devices used, challenges, etc.

When Updating iOS

We suggest taking a moment to quit and restart your CGM and looping apps after updating iOS. This can help prevent sensor loss and keep your loop green.

Don't Worry

Don’t worry if you see a notice on GitHub about the GitHub App Installation token format changing. This does not affect Browser Builds, which use a different kind of token. Just click the “x” to make the message disappear and build normally.

HackDiabetes Fundraising: Many Ways to Give

We know that everyone is busy, but we'd like you to take 5 minutes to click on the link to donate to the Nightscout Foundation to help fund Hack 2026.

Last year, over 400 donors raised more than $50,000 - covering travel, hotel rooms, conference space and meals for Hack 2025. This year, the goal is to reach over 500 donations. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us get there.

These hackathons are a major force behind the opne-source diabetes tech and features we rely on every day. When developers collaborate in person, they spark new ideas and breakthroughs that shape the community all year long (and beyond). Community support make this possible.

Twenty-Five Hours of Fasting with AID Systems

A study presented at ATTD 2026 by Revital Nimri of Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel, explored whether young people with type 1 diabetes could safely complete a 25-hour fast while using Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems. The study included 54 adolescents and young adults using a variety of commercial and open-source AID systems during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which involves a complete 25-hour fast and is coming up on 20-21 September.

The results were encouraging. All participants successfully completed the fast, and overall glucose outcomes improved during fasting compared with their usual days. Time in Range increased, time spent below 70 mg/dL decreased, and only a small number of mild hypoglycemic events occurred. Importantly, no severe hypoglycemia or other serious adverse events were reported.

Participants used a variety of fasting strategies, including exercise targets, sleep modes, and adjustments to glucose targets or basal insulin settings. Interestingly, some participants made few or no changes to their settings and still completed the fast successfully. This suggests that fasting adjustments may need to be individualized rather than following a single standard approach.

The study also examined ketones. Mild increases in ketone levels were common after the fast and generally reflected normal fasting physiology. However, participants who received less than about 30% of their usual insulin dose tended to have higher ketone levels, highlighting the importance of maintaining sufficient insulin delivery during prolonged fasting.

The researchers concluded that modern AID systems - including OS-AID- can help support safe prolonged fasting by maintaining glucose control while reducing the risk of hypoglycemia. Their findings suggest that many individuals may be able to fast safely with appropriate preparation, monitoring, and individualized adjustments.

504 Accommodation Request Form Builder

FOLLOWT1Ds has created a wonderful new resource to empower parents when requesting school accommodations in the US. This tool can be found on the FOLLOWT1Ds website and leads to a printable form that you can take with you when you meet with school administrators.

Open-Source AID: More Choice, More Responsibility

Theresa Hastings on Around the Circle: Living Well with T1D podcast

Want to be inspired? Listen to Theresa’s conversation with Scott Johnson, in which they discuss how Theresa went from a “lone T1D” to a community advocate - and now she's a board member of Nightscout Foundation. She talks about how Open Source uses approved devices to give more options to people living with diabetes and describes the many ways the community provides around-the-clock support.

Unexpected Help with Nightscout Development

One of our teen loopers has been exploring cybersecurity through recent training—and decided to put what he was learning into practice.

After identifying an opportunity to strengthen Nightscout, he shared his ideas with the development community and worked with a developer to turn them into a contribution. His pull request was reviewed and merged into the Nightscout development branch!

WOW! The future of open source is in good hands. Bravo to this young looper!

Friends for Life Looper Meetups

July means Friends for Life (FFL) Orlando, and the 2026 July event did not disappoint! Loopers had a fantastic time at our meet-up. Thanks to everyone who joined us to connect, share stories, and talk all things looping. There’s something pretty special about gathering with fellow OS-AID users and connecting in person and it’s extra special at such a great event!
