Omnipod 5: Welcome to Open Source!

We can finally share the big news with all of you...

OS-AID devs just announced at #DDATA in New Orleans that Loop and Trio are in private beta with Omnipod 5 pods. The code will be available publicly later this summer and AAPS Omnipod 5 is in development, as well. Check out this page for FAQs.

The Tandem Mobi is next - coming soon to Loop, Trio and AAPS.

Going Analog

Running out of Pods due to failures or the recall? Need a pump break? Would you like to go Analog?

Please check out our recent Special Open Mic with Kathryn Alvarez that explains how to transition from a pump to MDI.

WWDC: Take Note

Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is next week (June 8-12, 2026).

  1. It's free to watch online.

  2. This is a great time for all of us to take a minute to make sure that automatic iOS updates on our phone are disabled and that we don't allow beta iOS. iOS 27 is likely to be announced and loopers should always steer clear of beta versions and give the devs some time to make sure that there are no glitches that impact your open source AID.

  3. This weekend will be a good time to make sure that all of your apps will survive through next week without an update. In prior years, Apple's servers have had some downtime during the WWDC and while any downtime may only last a few hours, it's just not worth the risk.

  4. We're likely to see a new Apple dev program license agreement that will need to be signed.

Trio Updates

Trio 0.8.0 and 0.8.1 have been released in the last two weeks!

See what’s changed in the full release notes on Github:

Thank you to everyone who contributed code, testing, translations, docs, and feedback to get Trio to this point!

A Unified Approach to OS-AID Development

As a result of last year’s hack, the idea emerged for a workstream focused on collaboration among developers of Open-Source Automated Insulin Delivery Systems (OS-AID) across phone and app boundaries including how each interfaces with Nightscout and now Nocturne.

In late January 2026, that idea became a reality when Loop and Learn began hosting regular meetings, bringing together developers to share a common space and maintain productive, ongoing discussions. This includes developers working with Trio, AAPS, Loop, OpenAPS, Nightscout and Nocturne.

We are already finding that this new co-working arrangement is good for the developer community and for the development process as a whole!

A big thank-you to the community - your contribution of ideas, hardware and money makes this possible.

“Nothing About Us Without Us”

We sadly share these words from the #dedoc° community Facebook group:

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of #dedoc° founder and CEO, Bastian Hauck. Bastian died peacefully on Sunday 31 May, surrounded by loved ones, including Cuba, his beloved #dedog°.

Bastian’s vision, leadership and commitment to elevating the voices of our community transformed the diabetes landscape. Through #dedoc°, he built a global community, created opportunities for advocates to connect, and helped change the way lived experience is recognised across diabetes care, research and policy.

We extend our deepest condolences to Bastian’s family, friends and all who were inspired by his work. His legacy will continue through our #dedoc° community and the opportunities he created for people living with diabetes to be heard.

The #dedoc° team will continue to work on developing our programs in Bastian’s spirit.

Bastian, thank you for showing up.
