Reminders¶
Time Change¶
Daylight Savings Time begins on
- Sunday, March 29 in Europe
- At 2 a.m., it will suddenly be 3 a.m.
Daylight Saving Ends on Sunday, April 5, 2026 for our Aussie friends
- At 3:00 am (AEDT), turn clocks back to 2:00 am (AEST)
Open-Source Automated Insulin Delivery users:
Remember to always use your OS-AID app to set the time on your pump
- For the Loop app: The schedule for targets, basal rates, CR and ISF align with the time on your pump
- For the Trio app: The schedule for targets, basal rates, CR and ISF align with the time on your phone as long as the app is in closed loop; but if you switch to manual mode, all the settings align with the time on your pump
Apple Developer Agreement¶
Did you complete your Apple Develop Agreement by March 17. Good for you.
Guess what! Apple has updated again and this one needs agreement by 12 April.
Caregivers: If your agreement isn’t signed by the due date, Apple Push Notifications won’t work—and those are required for remote commands.
Monthly Rebuild¶
We suggest browser builders Rebuild the Loop app monthly. It’s Quick! It’s Easy! It keeps you looping!
Other apps automatically rebuild.
Once the build is in TestFlight, you still need to install it on your phone.
Introducing¶
Loop and Learn Discord¶
Loop and Learn has begun hosting a Discord community as an alternative to Facebook—both as a backup and for those who prefer Discord. Join us at https://loopandlearn.org/discord and help shape it! We’re not scaling back on Facebook, so if that’s where you connect with us, please keep doing so.

Huge thanks to everyone involved!
AAPS 3.4.1.0 Release¶
AAPS 3.4.1.0 was released on 8 March 2026. Check here for release notes.
More on this release can be found in this Facebook post.
iPhone 17e¶
Tests show the newly released iPhone 17e has the same Atlas DASH pod disconnect issues as the iPhone 16 series, so it is not recommended. The 17e uses a different Bluetooth chip than other iPhone 17 models, which are unaffected. These results apply to both Loop and Trio.
Update Your iPhone for Security¶
Important Message for Anyone Who Has Not Updated Their iPhone Since iOS 17.2.1.
The Caruna hacking kit targets iPhones running iOS 13 through 17.2.1 (released in 2023). Devices updated beyond that range are not affected—another reason to keep your phone current.
Pro Tips¶
Trio Tip¶
Here is a useful tip for changing the suggested bolus value in the bolus calculator:
If you need to correct or adjust the suggested bolus value after accepting it, simply press 0 (zero on the keyboard). This moves the cursor after the value, allowing you to delete digits using the backspace key.
Say goodbye to the old long-press-and-drag-forever routine. Your thumb will thank you. This can also be used to edit Carb, Protein, and Fat.
Travel Tip¶
Place your pod and CGM in accessible locations on your body while traveling. Enough said? 😉
Monitor and Limit Insulin Delivery¶
Some caregivers want more control over how much insulin an OS-AID delivers for safety reasons. Here are some facts and ideas.
Max IOB for the Loop app
The Max Bolus setting also determines the maximum insulin on board (IOB) that Loop will automatically deliver, up to 2× the Max Bolus.
Max IOB for the Trio app
Trio has an explicit maximum IOB setting to limit the maximum IOB that is automatically delivered.
Manual Bolus
The max IOB settings do not prevent someone from manually delivering multiple boluses at the Max Bolus amount.
LoopFollow and remote monitoring/control:
LoopFollow offers flexible alerts, including a Max IOB alarm, and remote monitoring features.
- Allows a caregiver to follow the person with diabetes (iOS only)
- When connected to a Nightscout site, it provides extensive alert options
- Remote control features also require Nightscout
- Documentation is available here: https://loopfollowdocs.org
Additional safeguards:
Newer iOS versions allow you to require Face ID to open or even view the app. If the child does not have access to Face ID, the phone can function as a locked-down controller that must remain nearby to be used. Remote actions can then be handled through LoopFollow by a responsible caregiver.
ATTD 2026 Sneak Peek¶
Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) is one of the world’s leading conferences on diabetes tech, bringing together researchers, clinicians, industry, and people living with diabetes.
For users of OS-AID, ATTD matters because this is where many of the technologies, algorithms, and ideas behind AID systems (commercial but Open source, too) are discussed, challenged, and shaped.
At ATTD 2026, the dedoc° symposium once again reminded us how far the diabetes community has come. What began over 10 years ago as a bold idea—bringing people with lived diabetes experience into scientific conferences—has now become a true paradigm shift.
As highlighted by Bastian Hauck, this movement has helped transform diabetes care toward genuine patient-centered collaboration. Today, people living with diabetes are not just participants, but active contributors shaping research, technology, and care.
We at Loop and Learn are especially proud to have team members who have been supported through the dedoc° voices scholarship program, helping amplify these essential perspectives on global stages.
Key takeaway: The future of diabetes care is built with people living with diabetes, not just for them.
Quotes from Attendees¶
-
“It’s beautiful to see the progress toward fully closed-loop systems. I’m amazed by how the type 1 community keeps pushing for better tech. It was really inspiring to meet the Nightscout Foundation and dedoc crews, and to see all the patient-led innovation happening around the world, like the ATTD Diabetes Tech Tank. Let’s keep learning from each other.”
-J. Co, Philippines -
“Meeting the open source community at ATTD made one thing clear—behind every algorithm are people living this every day. The conversations were honest, unpacking both the promise and the limits of AI and commercial systems, especially with carb absorption never being straightforward. What I loved most was how naturally it all flowed—personal laughter mixed with deep dives into AI and open source algorithms, like a normal breakfast chat. It reminded me that real progress happens when lived experience and technology sit at the same table.”
-Asra, Saudi Arabia -
“ATTD was a powerful reminder that behind every innovation, there are real stories, challenges, and hope. What inspired me most was the shared commitment to make life easier and safer for people living with diabetes.”
- Batool, Syria

Clinical Study: Exercise & Type 1 Diabetes¶
The Jaeb Center for Health Research is launching the EDGE study to tackle the frustration of managing blood sugars during exercise. This is a US-only study.
We know that maintaining a healthy lifestyle often means dealing with highs or surprise lows, so this study aims to replace generic advice with data-backed strategies on insulin adjustments and carbohydrate timing. It also explores if specialized education can help you improve your time in range (TIR) and avoid fluctuations, empowering the T1D community to stay active safely.
Purpose: The study will explore how learning more about exercise and glucose management might help adults with T1D improve their glucose control.
Eligibility: Adults diagnosed with T1D for 1+ years; currently active (30 mins, 2x/week); using a pump or multiple daily injections (MDI); and using a Dexcom or Medtronic CGM (Note: Abbott Libre users are not eligible).
Structure: 100% Remote. There are no clinic visits, commutes, or time off work required. You will review educational materials and share data from your devices from home.
Compensation: Participants will receive a physical activity tracker (yours to keep) and compensation for completing questionnaires and sharing data.
